Ask a large number of people who have tried and failed in any sales related position and you’ll most likely hear things like… “I’m not cut out for sales.”… “There are too many objections.”… “No one has the money”… etc. However the fact is sales like anything else simply needs to be learned. The process must be studied. And here lies the problem. Most are lazy and do not want to take the time to discover how the sales process actually works and thusly how to be really good at it.

Let’s look at the excuses.

“I’m not cut out for sales.”…

Despite what many claim, I would argue that anyone can learn to become a sales superstar. I feel this way because of the many I’ve shown how to apply simple to understand principles to become amazingly successful. There are countless people who do a variety of professions that if you asked them before they got in to it if they ever thought they would be doing it, and they say absolutely not!

“There are too many objections.”…

False. There are only the same handful. You simply need to learn how to easily overcome them! This process is rather elementary once you tale the time to discover how people think and what their fears and motivators are. 9 out of 10 people who throw around objections are really telling you their fears described as questions! They are telling you how to sell to them.

“No one has the money”…

Simply not true. There will always be an endless supply of people to sell to who do have the money. It’s simply a matter of knowing how to find them and then not being afraid to ask for the sale. Unfortunately one of the biggest reasons most fail in sales is they approach the wrong kinds of people and then are clueless about how to sell at all. So even if they were to find the right person to approach, they would screw it up anyway because they were too lazy to first learn how to sell properly.

I could go on and on but you should get the jest of it with these examples. Clearly selling is not for everyone. It’s only for those individuals who want to amass significant income for life. Why did I make this statement? Again it’s very simple. Look at anyone currently ultra successful. Anyone who has ever made a fortune was someone selling something to someone else. Do you honestly think they were just born to be natural sales people?

I’m a great example. I thought I would retire as a Private Investigator. I spent 14 years as an investigator working all sorts of high profile cases. Then the Internet bug bit me and I started all over again in a completely foreign field. And today I’m a self-made millionaire. And for me to walk away from $60. an hour to an uncertain income in sales wasn’t easy. I had to step out in faith. So think about where I would be if I had not took the chance at a better quality of life. Sure I would enjoy what I was doing as a P.I., but I would not have scratched the surface of my true potential. Have you scratched the surface of yours or are you to busy scratching to barely survive?

Stop listening to people who aren’t qualified to help you. Get the facts. Go to your local book store and sit in the aisle reading the sales books. The one consistent theme you will discover is that once you understand the difference between fear and motivation, your income will skyrocket.

Many say I simply don’t like selling. This may shock you but I don’t like it either! I hate live presentations. Not so much because I can’t do them, but rather because they aren’t really the most efficient use of my time. And because of this smarter way to do sales, by the time I actually speak with a prospect live they are already sold!

Here are the eight most common mistakes the average Coastal Vacations rep makes and why they will never make any money in the Coastal Vacations program.

1) Listening to someone who can’t really help you.

There are lots of people in the Coastal Vacations program. Unfortunately not all of them are having consistent, measurable success they can easily demonstrate to you. You always want to make sure whomever you are interviewing for a mentor can clearly show you he or she is making serious money and having the kind of success you are looking for. Taking their word for it is useless and does nothing to prove anything to you. Seek out someone who has it together and can demonstrate such.

2) Thinking a “Call Center” is going to do all the work for you!

It’s not even logical that someone is going to send you a check for doing nothing and yet unfortunately some fall for this call center hype only to discover pretty quickly there is no substitute for learning the proper way to work the Coastal Vacations business. The call center model does nothing but give false hope to those who fall for it and at best breed laziness in whomever falls for it. You will never build a team of serious people and be able to generate long-term success in Coastal Vacations by wasting your time with any call center.

3) Buying Leads.

This is a really big issue that is really widespread and out of control. Lead and list brokers make it sound like all you gotta do is buy their leads and just like the magic beans in the Jack and the Beanstalk fairly tale, incredible things will happen. Well about the only thing incredible thing about buying leads is how quickly you lose your money! There is no lead anywhere you can buy that is fresh and targeted for one program or another. Leads must be qualified and targeted and have the money to do the program. Lead and list brokers do not care about you, they simply want to sell the same worn out batch of leads to you that they have already sold to countless other people. They will sell the same list over and over to as many people as will buy them. Lead brokers will lie through their teeth and make wild claims that are never substantiated by true and accurate data. The only way you can be sure how the leads were generated and where they came from is if you generate them yourself. Anything else is a complete waste of time, energy, and effort.

4) Using a poor website.

Coastal Vacations is a great program but unless you have a desire to do repetitive and lengthy presentations all day long every day and around the clock, you had better have a high converting web site that properly outlines the program and not only holds the prospects complete attention bit also educates them along the way. Most use a website for Coastal Vacations that costs $50 to $80 a month. These sites tend to present the opportunity in a very generic fashion and aren’t aggressive enough to generate serious attention from the average person visiting them. In fact a very high percentage of visitors to these types of sites click away and leave because the layout presents the program by giving away too much too soon and allows the prospect to click away without any direction of control. This creates wild assumptions in the prospects’ mind and leaves them confused and not interested.

5) Signing up with someone who has no proven marketing plan or system.

It makes no sense to join Coastal Vacations with any person that can’t show you an exact marketing plan. Always ask what the marketing plan is. Ask what the first five things are they will have you do to ensure your success once you coin Coastal Vacations with them. If their answer isn’t backed up with real solid factual stuff you can understand and see could work, all they are doing is talking and that in in of itself will never help you make money.

6) No training.

Technology changes. The Internet evolves. Every day many great new discoveries are made that can help you to grow your Coastal Vacations business. If you sign up with a person who isn’t going to offer you the latest training on the new marketing advances, how do you expect to make breakthroughs in your business? Do you really want to be solely responsible for your entire Internet Marketing campaign? Always ask what type of training is offered. And also watch out for people who claim they have a training or membership area. Most of those are 99% fluff and only contain about 1% of helpful material and resources.

7) Not taking advantage of technology.

Technology is wonderful. Automation is the key. Unfortunately most of the people who you sign up with in Coastal Vacations are stuck in the “old school” mentality. You do not have to sit down with a list of names and numbers and cold call people. You do not need to read scripts to people either.

There are many other common mistakes. But these will hopefully help you to avoid signing up with the wrong director in Coastal Vacations. Always do your homework and do not be afraid to ask lots of questions. The web is a great place for opportunity and a level playing field right? Well it depends on who is playing fair and for what side they are playing. This is especially true when it comes to buying leads. Sure leads are the lifeblood of any MLM, business opportunity, or networking program. You must have an endless supply of targeted, fresh, qualified leads to pitch to. The issue at hand here is what’s the smartest way to generate the leads you seek.

If you listen to a fast talking lead or list broker they will tell you all the reasons that on the surface sound great as to why you should buy or rent leads and lists from them and only them. And since there are as many or more people selling lead as their are business opportunities, how do you know who to listen to and who to spend your hard earned dollars with?

If you think this article has an agenda and I’m going to give you an affiliate link at the end to buy leads from me you are wrong. Relax, I’m not here to sell anything. I don’t even sell leads anyway. I am the leader of a huge success team working the Coastal Vacations program. I can tell you I didn’t become one of the all time top income earners of eleven years because I bought or rented leads!

As with anything there is a hard way and a smart way. If you buy leads you are going to learn quickly that you might as well set your money on fire and throw it out the window as you drive down the road. At least that way you can get some entertainment value out of it even it it only lasts a few seconds.

Lead and list brokers claim to have the perfect list of names. And it never matters what program or opportunity you are working. What gets me is the lead brokers who claim they have the perfect list without first ever asking which program you are working. Gee, I guess they are somehow psychic too… no not hardly. They are simply out to take your money.

Lead brokers will say everything they can think of (and some of them are quite convincing) to get you to buy their leads. And when you call them up afterwords, (you know when zero sales came in as a result of the leads you bought and you got a bunch of under aged kids and people who either filled out a sweepstakes offer online or never opted in for any incentivized offer in the first place) and ask why such a bad response, you will hear them say it is your fault because you didn’t work the leads properly. And wouldn’t you know it, they have something to sell you to help you discover how to work the leads the right way! Lucky you right?

Don’t waste your time buying or renting lead lists. Instead spend your money wisely and discover how to generate your own leads. At least you will know exactly how they were generated and that they are really targeted to your market.

Here’s a great question to ask people who are trying to sell you leads. “If these leads are so great, why don’t you join the opportunity and quietly use these leads to rake in thousands every day?” The answer is usually… “I’m not in the business opportunity business. I’m in the leads business.” or… “The company makes us sign something saying we will not join any opportunity etc. etc. blah blah blah” Neither is acceptable if you have common sense.

You would be far better off getting yourself a toll free voice mail number and running your own ad in USA Today on a Friday. If your ad copy is decent you will get a couple hundred calls. And then you will not have to deal with any of the headaches associated with buying leads.

Simply ask yourself if you want to grossly over pay for worthless leads who have already been called a zillion times and are not even remotely qualified for what you want or if you would rather talk with serious people should have the money and the mindset to get started immediately?

Another trick lead brokers use all the time is changing the dates on lead lists to make them appear fresh. Feel like buying a list of names and numbers that are literally two years old? Call up a lead broker and that’s most likely what you will get! You may get a list of names taken from one of those frisbies… I mean CD’s containing 80 million names on it that claims to be priceless etc.

Be smart. Use your head. Don’t buy leads.

You’ve most likely heard it said… “You must be willing to do the things others won’t do in order to have the things others won’t have.” And it’s true. After working with literally thousands of people either through one on one mentorship or in a group training or seminar environment, I know the reason most never do the things they should be doing to ensure their success.

It really comes down to the desire and adaptiveness of the individual. Desire by itself is great and it’s very important, but unfortunately desire is overshadowed by the assumptive reasoning (or lack thereof depending on how you choose to look at it) that in order to reach wealth building goals learning is involved and required. And people dislike learning. They tend to assume learning is going to be tough and simply not worth the effort when their is no guarantee of any success. People do not want to learn. They want everything handed to them.

So how do you reach these people? Simple. You remove their fear of learning and offer them the opportunity to discover. It’s extremely important to understand the difference between the words learn and discover. For the average person to learn something means things like tough, hard, painful, struggle, failure, disappointment etc. However if you remove the word learn you also instantly take away the associated words as well.

Allowing a person to discover then changes the dynamic completely. The word discover to the average person means excitement, fun, interest, laughter, easy, simple, success. And it also allows people to more easily drop their guard and when this happens they are always easier to reach.

Now, the first headline gives off a vibe that it’s going to require work and of course most likely be expensive. Always remember when writing any ad copy to avoid using the word learn and instead use discovery or discovery when possible. Just this small change will great boost your response rates.

This concept works one on one as well as in a group or team environment. And it’s actually much easier to pull off in a group environment because the energy is greater already and the enthusiasm tends to spread rather quickly.

The quickest way to create energy and enthusiasm in your team is to get them to have fun and teach them at the same time. But here’s the key. They do not want to learn anything. It’s always easier to trick them in to learning by presenting the lesson in such a way that they think they just stumbled upon it by accident. This happens because they didn’t have their guard up and it allowed their mind to remain clear and open to suggestion. Think of it as a sponge. Here’s a simple formula you can use when writing ad copy. It’s broken down into four elements and each element has a very important job. Each element on its own tackles a critical part of the final sale. And the combined element pulls everything together as it should be to ensure a winning ad or great ad copy.

ATTENTION:

The first element is attention. This is the headline and it should be written to grab attention and not to close the sale. Rarely can you close the sale with just the headline so don’t try.

INTEREST:

After you grab their attention interest is the next element. You want to reach people with interest in what you are offering. Your ad copy needs to stimulate interest. This is most commonly accomplished by describing your product or service as something that fills a need or solved a problem or makes life easier etc.

DESIRE:

This is a very important part of your ad copy because the desire part is what really tugs on the emotional heartstrings of the buyer. It is here that you provide copy that supports how by using your product or service that the buyer will get the things they are looking for.

ACTION:

The last elements is action. This is where most copywriters really mess it all up. They are afraid to ask for the sale! Never be afraid to ask for the sale. Always remember that people are looking for what you offer. There are millions of niche markets. Someone someone somewhere wants exactly what you offer. And unless you ask for the sale you are never going to get it.

“Just Do It!” I wish it were more fancy than that but it’s not. If you want to have amazing success then get off your butt and get it done. Sure it sometimes requires discipline. There will always be other things to offer distraction however for those who truly want to realize their dreams of tremendous success, they make a choice and get things done.

Look at “Larry the Cable Guy” what’s his famous one-liner? ‘Get er Done!’ and that he does to the tune of $250,000. per appearance. Who would have thought that one-liner would really mean more than just a funny pop culture phrase.

The message here is to stop making excuses and start making money. Remember this. You can make money or you can make excuses but you can’t make both at the same time. So you have to pick one and get on with it! Another factor is choice. The choices you make determine your income plain and simple. You can choose to allow distractions to keep you from ever getting things done or you can decide to overcome it and position yourself closer to your goal.

The lottery was both the smartest and also the stupidest thing to ever happen to our nation. If we look at it from the state perspective it’s brilliant. The state rakes in a huge massive profit every day at the expense of foolish people who lack the ambition or drive to ever succeed in life. This is why in 99% of the cases where people when a very large sum of cash within two years they have already lost it all and they are right back where they started. Do I really need to go in to why this is stupid? Does the lottery promote any work ethic or values? Does the lottery offer up anything other than getting something for nothing?

I’ve purchased a ticket here and there. However I have never looked at it as the cure all for my problems. And even if I were to win millions it really would not change who I am. Because the core of my being already has the integrity and work ethic ingrained. If I were to win the lottery it would be great of course but I would still pursue my personal goals and continue to set higher ones for myself. And I would accomplish them all.

A wise man once said when asked the secret of his success… “Early to bed. Early to rise. Work like hell and advertise!” It really sums it all up. Stop making excuses. Stop whining. Stop all the useless whimpering and simply stand up and take action. Just do it!
